Reaching Out

Reaching Out from Swift Memorial

True Community
Swift Memorial believes that its community is both inside and beyond the walls of the church. Join us in reaching out to our neighbors!

Caring Ministry
Swift UMC is a place "where friends become family" and Hebrews 10:24 tells us to consider how we may spur one another on in love and good deeds. The Swift Caring Ministry was set up with just that in mind. This ministry encompasses both caring for one another as needs arise and nurturing a church family atmosphere through fellowship activities. The first part provides meals for those who have been recently hospitalized, as well as sending birthday, anniversary, and get well cards for our parishioners. Those needing rides are also arranged for doctor, pt, or other appointments. Church flowers that have been left following a wedding or other event are donated to local nursing homes or long term shut-ins. Game nights, Communion Sunday meals together, and other social events are the second part of this ministry.

Being a Good Neighbor
This ministry entails many entities. Swift is presently offering space to the Hoxie Cultural Arts and Activities Center as they remodel and update their facility. This group offers a variety of courses held at the church.

Swift has begun a homeless mission project that we hope will extend throughout the year helping those in the Bourne and Sandwich areas. The church has always helped several shelters at Christmas time with the Angel Tree. Year round small, but important missions are monthly donations to the Bourne Food Pantry, collecting the tabs from cans for the Shriner’s Van project, and quarterly Blood Drives for the Cape Cod HealthCare Group serving Falmouth and Hyannis hospitals. At Christmas, the tradition of caroling around the immediate neighborhood has been re-established. The Hanging of the Greens, a family celebration kicking off Advent season has expanded to include a table for children to buy their parents gifts for Christmas and a bake sale table. The church also houses the Rainbow Preschool to which we offer classroom and office space along with other amenities.
